LEAK SURVEYS

Our full system leak detection surveys are completely comprehensive in their scope.  NO parts of the water system are left out of scrutiny.  Every hydrant, visible valve and service box is contacted by our team.  Typically, a full system survey will consist of walking all public and private ways and listen to any available contact points in the water distribution grid. High traffic areas, such as main roads and numbered highways, are done with computerized correlation devices that listen and analyze any potential leak noise through the pipes rather than through the ground.  Cross country transmission lines are analyzed by portable loggers.  Loggers are small robotic listening devices , placed in remote areas along a water line, that turn themselves on when noise is at a minimum ,(usually 2 A.M.), listen for leak noises, record any noise, then shut themselves off after a few hours.  This data is kept in the logger and transferred wirelessly to our telemetry system during daylight hours.  If leaks are heard, an alert is transmitted to our leak team who go to the area where the logger is and proceed to analyze and pinpoint the exact location of the leak.  If no leaks are heard these robotic loggers can then be transferred to another area of the system for further analysis.
Our leak team works very closely with the water authority investigating critical areas of the water system that need extra focus.  These areas usually include river crossings, long water line distances that pass under heavily traveled roads and highways, or areas in the system which are prone to leakage problems due to their age or composition. The experienced Prowler team does not require direct assistance from the water authority to perform this survey, as some other leak survey providers do, and our survey is done during daylight hours when authority personnel can be contacted for troubleshooting or guidance.  As the survey progresses we provide designated personnel with a 'preliminary list' of potential leaks that have been discovered but not verified or pinpointed.  These potential leaks are then qualified by the water authorities personnel as to whether they are definitely in their system or warrant further pinpointing.  Some noises are false alarms caused by various underground noises- natural gas mains or heavily flowing sewer manholes or pumps- can lead to un-necessary investigation.  If leaks are qualified our team then pinpoints and marks the leaks.  When the survey is complete Prowler provides a complete report which lists all leak locations, which areas were done acoustically or by computerized devices, the approximate sizes of the leaks and a chart of total water leakage in gallons of water per minute, per day, per month and per year.  The report concludes with a figure, in dollars and cents, which is based on current costs of producing and supplying water in Millions of gallons by the American Water Works Associations standards, of how much money will be saved by repairing all of the leaks found in the survey.

TIME INTENSIVE CRITICAL LEAK DETECTION

Prowler also provides fast response to troubleshoot leaks that are happening 'right now'.  Our leak technicians can respond to calls for leak detection and provide service in time blocks of 4 or 8 hours.  Prices vary for distances that have to be traveled but costs on average are low as compared to the great expense of repairing water damage and/or actual costs of paying for water that is being leaked and not used.  Prowler also provides on call leak detection service to any of our municipal customers who have hired us to do their complete surveys.  For a time span of 6 months after we complete our survey we will provide a leak technician within 6 hours of notification (day or night) at a cost of half of our normal rate.
